PARIS, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese divers Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani, along with their close friend Maddison Keeney of Australia, enjoyed themselves together as all three made it to the podium at the Paris Olympics on Friday.

In the women's 3m springboard final, Chen led from the first round to win the title, while Keeney and Chang followed behind to finish second and third respectively.

The girls embraced each other immediately after the final round, creating an even sweeter moment during the medal ceremony.

As 25-year-old Chen jumped onto the top podium, both Chang and Keeney extended their arms towards her while raising the other high, waving to greet the champion.

"Maddison and I suddenly came up with this idea while we were in the jacuzzi after our final dives," said Chen, who first met Keeney seven years ago.

"Yani knew Maddison even earlier than I did, so the three of us have been competing together in international events for years," Chen added. "It's something truly worth cherishing. And now, to stand on the Olympic podium together. It's quite unbelievable."

Keeney, 28, savored the moment, especially after adding a silver medal to the bronze she had won at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

"I feel like these girls are like my sisters, and I'm really lucky to have such a positive competitive relationship with them," she said.

"No matter what happens on the board, it doesn't affect our relationship off the board. It even strengthens it."

"I think the women's 3m has such a positive culture within itself. Everyone wants the best for everyone, and when we get to come together for competitions it just makes it all the more sweet to be able to compete against your friends.

"Sport, you need to be able to enjoy it. So being able to enjoy it with two of my really close friends and being able to share this moment with them, I'm very lucky."

But the friendship extends beyond just the women's springboard. British teenager Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix has openly expressed her admiration for China's platform sensation Quan Hongchan.

The 19-year-old not only brought snacks for Quan and other members of the Chinese team but also revealed that she and the 17-year-old Chinese occasionally message each other.

Spendolini-Sirieix also affectionately referred to Quan as "Meimei," which means "little sister" in Mandarin, and "Guimi🦄九游娱乐(中国)网址在线," which means "close friend," during the interview.  ■
